Inflammatory News About Massage Benefits

Getting a massage isn’t just pampering: There’s scientific evidence that a good rubdown can be good for your health.

Massage reduces inflammation in your body’s cells, report scientists from the Buck Institute for Research on Aging and McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

In a recent study, 11 young men had muscle biopsies taken from both legs after they exercised to exhaustion on stationary bicycles. Each volunteer then had one leg massaged for 10 minutes, followed immediately by a second biopsy. A third biopsy was taken after a two-and-a-half-hour recovery period, and an analysis of the tissue showed that massage reduced the release of inflammatory proteins in the muscle cells.
