Boosting Brain Power With Exercise

Doing high-intensity interval training may make you smarter as well as slimmer, according to a study conducted by the Montreal Heart Institute and the University of Montreal in collaboration with the Montreal Geriatric University Institute in Canada.

Overweight middle-aged adults who also had risk factors for heart disease participated in an exercise program that alternated low- and high-intensity aerobic exercise, such as 30 seconds of walking followed by 30 seconds of sprinting. At the end of the program, the participants’ cognitive functions had greatly improved, while their waistlines had shrunk.
